FEATURED MOMPRENEUR: A MOM IN RED HIGH HEELS

The "TastyMom" award signifies our Mompreneur-of-the-Month. This award is for Moms who still manage to stay tasty despite all the hustle and bustle of being a mother & owning a business.  This month, the "TastyMom" award goes to...Tammy Gibson! Tammy Gibson lives in southern California with her husband Larry who she has been married to for 13 years. They have three children. When Tammy launched an online boutique to help pregnant moms stay fashionable, she had no idea the journey it would take her on. Now known online as the “Resident Mom Fashion Expert,” Tammy now contributes to several blogs as top beauty resources such as Total Beauty.com. Her website, A Mom In Red High Heels.com, encourages, supports, and educates moms on all things beauty and style.

Red High Heels can bring a touch of adventure, a punch of pizzazz or a hint of romance to our style. Whether you’re like me and love Red High Heels or are just looking to shake things up a little, nothing can make you feel quite as happy as the perfect pair of Red High Heels.

I didn’t always love wearing heels, much less red ones that took a bit of confidence to pull off.  I used to be a physical education teacher.  I spent years in sweats and tennis shoes on the field with my students.  My hair spent more time in a ponytail than I care to admit.

Just weeks before my first child was born I said good-bye to the life of ultra-casual wear.  I was determined to become a woman of style.  Little did I realize that motherhood had its own “uniform.”

“Comfort and casual” mean a lot to a mom.  How can you spend time in the morning putting on makeup and neatly pressed clothes when the baby needs nursing, the dishes need doing and you need a nap?  Still, I fought the urge to dress in the “uniform” of ponytails, sweats and my husband’s tees.  I bought the
most functional, stylish wear I could afford (remember, I quit my job- we were down to one income with an additional family member to provide for!).  I would lay my baby on the floor in front of the full length mirror and sit down behind him.  I did my make up; he did tummy time.  And so my story in fashion and beauty began.

While pregnant with my second child 2.5 years later, I had the urge to do something for myself, bring in a bit of extra income for my family and help other moms.  I started an online boutique selling hip, modern maternity wear and funky, fun baby wear.  I spent hours on the computer while my kiddos slept, developing what I thought to be a great little boutique encouraging moms not to go from fab to frumpy just because she became pregnant!  I poured my heart and soul into the business.  After 3 years of growth, I sold the boutique to a young couple that could take it to the next level of success.

My heart was in sharing the love of beauty and style with moms and encouraging them to keep themselves on their own priority list.

I moved forward to reach moms everywhere.  I put together a resource for moms (and all women) called A Mom in Red High Heels.  Its sole function is to empower moms through beauty and style.  A mom has some special needs:  lack of sleep, lack of budget, and lack of time.  These needs must be addressed or moms may be too quick to use them as excuses for not making herself look her best everyday.  It is my mission to help mothers find quick ways to get ready each day, find fashionable, quality items that will fit into her budget and encourage her to take time for herself so she won’t feel so drained.  A Mom in Red High Heels is my avenue to empower moms.

During the time I’ve owned and worked as editor on A Mom in Red High Heels, I’ve had so many wonderful opportunities, worked with many amazing moms, been inspired by incredible stylists, designers and make up artists.  I LOVE what I do, I feel like an empowered woman, I feel honored and like I am making a difference in the lives of women all while being blessed to stay-at-home to raise my children.
