WHAT SUMMER MEANS TO ME

- JoAnna Ross Contributing Writer
What does the summer mean to me? Selfishly, it is my birthday so I always get excited. As I get older, I realize it also means the end of summer and the start of school. As I became an adult I realized it meant time to celebrate who I am……
As a yoga teacher for adults and children, I always start my class by telling a story or giving the class something to think about. I usually end up drawing from my own experiences so it hasn’t always been easy. In the summer, I like to keep it light and fun. A few years back I realized around August 1st: why wait till my birthday to celebrate who we are? Let’s celebrate all month, everyday, every part of what makes us unique: the good the bad, the weird, the funny, the shy, the outrageous, the quirky and everything in between. Summer reminds me that if I haven’t been celebrating who I am, I better get to it because the BIG day is coming up soon where everyone gets to help me celebrate who I am!
